 Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it is very popular for birding, hiking, and running. The Gateway to Volcan Summit is 5.4 miles with 1,800 feet of net elevation gain.

Santa Ysabel Nature Center Loop Trail (SD County Santa Ysabel East Preserve)

A 3.9 mile moderate loop trail located near Santa Ysabel, California that features beautiful wildflowers. The trail is primarily used for walking, running, hiking, and nature trips. Dogs are welcome as long as they are on a leash. 

Kanaka Loop Trail (SD County Santa Ysabel East Preserve)

Santa Ysabel Nature Center Loop Trail (SD County Santa Ysabel East Preserve)

This hike begins at the Farmer Staging Area and explores the former ranchland. It includes a net elevation gain of about 1,350 feet and is about 7.1 miles long. Dogs are welcome on a leash. 

Upper Creek Trail (SD County Santa Ysabel West Preserve)

A 5.5 mile moderate loop trail with an 1,800 ft. net elevation gain located near Julian, CA. It features beautiful wildflowers and offers a number of activity options. It is accessible year-round and leashed dogs are welcome!

Inaja Memorial Picnic Site (Cleveland National Forest)

This easy 0.5 mile trail ends at a beautiful picnic area, perfectly paired with food from any of our amazing restaurants in Julian. There are many connecting trail options if you want to continue on with the adventure. Pets are welcome!
